First step - free initial consultation telephone call
This is a free 15 minute call to see if we are a good fit for each other. I can answer any questions you might have and explain how our sessions might work. It’s a first chance to briefly share what’s going on for you at the moment. There’s no pressure to book sessions, but if you feel ready and want to we can book your first session in at the end of the call. I generally recommend weekly sessions, at the same time each week, if you are able.

Are you finding Motherhood to be harder than you imagined?
You might have concerns about low mood or feelings of anxiety, anger and rage.
Perhaps you experienced a stressful or traumatic birth.
Perhaps you have experienced the heartbreak of infertility, miscarriage or loss on your journey?
You might be a Mum of older children, struggling to juggle the many different aspects of life and hold the ‘mental load’ of everyone.
You could be experiencing the difficulties we face due to the hormonal changes caused by PMS or PMDD, and the emotional toll of these.
Or you may be transitioning into a new stage of life and experiencing peri-menopause or menopause, leaving you unsure of this new version of yourself.
Relationships with partners, our children, our wider family and friends can be difficult to navigate when we’re going through these issues; especially if we have had difficult or traumatic experiences in our past.
I provide a confidential, empathic and non-judgemental space to explore experiences such as these and am led by you and what you bring to talk about. I will walk alongside you, at your pace, to unpick and understand your experiences and difficulties better.
How are you…really?
I am an integrative therapist, which means that my training included different modalities and methods of approaching people’s difficulties and of helping them to overcome their struggles. I can draw on these various models and theories as I work with you as an individual with your own unique experience, rather than adopting a one size fits all approach.
Underpinning my work with you will be a relational and person-centred approach; meaning that our therapeutic relationship is central to everything. I believe that it is our human-to-human connection, alongside my authentic, non-judgemental and empathic presence, that is the most important part of therapy.
Together we can gently try to understand anything that might be troubling you from your past; focus on experiences and difficulties currently in your life today; and explore techniques and more useful ways of thinking and behaving in your future.
How do I approach supporting you?
How I got here
My background initially is in Nursing, and I completed a Nursing degree and worked as a Nurse in the NHS. I knew that I really wanted to work in a caring profession, supporting people through their most difficult times. However, the pressures of the NHS became apparent, and I felt I could no longer offer patients enough one-to-one time - I felt I really wanted to spend more time with each unique person. So I left the Nursing Profession and trained in Holistic Therapies, before setting up my own business where I supported women’s wellbeing through complementary therapies.
I then went through some life changes - experiencing pregnancy losses, followed by birth trauma when becoming a Mum and postnatal depression. All of which affected me profoundly and helped me to take the plunge into realising a long-held dream of becoming a counsellor. I felt passionate about other women not having to go through difficult experiences alone, and to improving the experiences of women. This then informed and motivated my counselling training.
Alongside this I trained in Perinatal Mental Health Peer Support and this helps me in my Volunteer role for the charity PANDAS - where I volunteer to support parents through pregnancy and parenthood.
I believe passionately about advocating for women and Mums and was a Volunteer with the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership as a parent rep, where we listened to women’s experiences in order to help develop and improve maternity services in Leeds.
I undertake my private practice as part of Arbour Counselling and Psychotherapy, a small collective of therapists, in our therapy room in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.
Alongside this I work as a counsellor at a Women’s Centre, where I support women in many varied and wide ranging areas; such as relationship difficulties; domestic abuse; sexual abuse; loss and grief; anxiety and depression; anger and rage; difficulties in motherhood; stress; hormonal issues such as PMDD; sexuality issues; neurodiversity challenges.
I have also been a Samaritans telephone listener volunteer.
