First step - free initial consultation telephone call
This is a free 15 minute call to see if we are a good fit for each other. I can answer any questions you might have and explain how our sessions might work. It’s a first chance to briefly share what’s going on for you at the moment. There’s no pressure to book sessions, but if you feel ready and want to we can book your first session in at the end of the call. I generally recommend weekly sessions, at the same time each week, if you are able.

Face to face session - £55
50 minute in person session in my cozy, private therapy room in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.

Online session - £55
If you would prefer online sessions or are unable to attend face to face, I offer 50 minute sessions via Zoom. I politely request that you are in a space that is private and where you won’t be disturbed.
You might find yourself answering, 'fine!' to this question in public, but inside are you finding Motherhood to be harder than you imagined? Do you have a harsh inner voice who is very critical of your parenting and would like to find a way to be kinder to yourself?
Are you lying awake at night, even when your little one is asleep, unable to switch off with racing thoughts swirling round your head?
Are you losing it with your kids or partner and wish you could feel more calm and less reactive? You might hear your own parent's voice coming out when you lose it with your child, and not want to repeat the experience you had growing up.
Perhaps you experienced a stressful or traumatic birth which has stayed with you.
Perhaps you have experienced or are still going through the heartbreak of infertility or loss on your journey?
Are you on maternity leave, would like to be in a better headspace before you return to work and work through any worries about leaving your baby in childcare?
You might be a Mum of older children, struggling to juggle the many different aspects of life and hold the ‘mental load’ of everyone. Are you now experiencing 'empty nest syndrome' after your adult children have moved out?
You could be experiencing the difficulties we can face due to the hormonal changes caused by PMS or PMDD, and the emotional toll of these on us and our relationships.
Or you may be transitioning into a new stage of life and experiencing peri-menopause or menopause, leaving you unsure of this new version of yourself.
Counselling can help you to feel more in control of your emotions, stop worrying and anxious thoughts, find your identity again and be the Mum you want to be.
It's not selfish to want to come to counselling and to take a bit of time to yourself to focus on your mental health. When Mums feel happier and calmer our children and family hugely benefit from this too.
How are you…really?
How can therapy help you?
Therapy can help you transform your Motherhood experience by:
Talking through the aspects of being a Mum that you are finding really difficult or not enjoying, without fear of judgement - so that you can be kinder to yourself and reduce feelings of guilt and shame.
Gently challenging the idea of the 'perfect Mum' who never shouts and loves every minute - so that you can embrace the 'good enough' Mum who knows that it's so important for our children to learn that it's okay to be human.
Exploring any difficult conversations that you would like to have - so that you can feel prepared and regulated to ask for your needs to be met, and feel validated and supported in your personal relationships.
Learning together about hormonal changes in Motherhood which can greatly affect our mood and anxiety levels - so that you can understand your personal reactions and thoughts more compassionately in light of this.
How I got here
My background initially is in Nursing. I knew that I really wanted to work in a caring profession, supporting people through their most difficult times. However, the pressures of the NHS became apparent, and I felt I could no longer offer patients enough one-to-one time; I felt I really wanted to spend more time with each unique person.
I went through some personal life changes along the way, experiencing pregnancy losses, followed by birth trauma when becoming a Mum and postnatal depression. All of which affected me profoundly and helped me to take the plunge into realising a long-held dream of becoming a counsellor. I felt so passionate about other women not having to go through difficult experiences alone, and to improving the experiences of women; so this then informed and motivated my counselling training. I understand the feelings of grief, exhaustion, loneliness, anxiety and overwhelm that women can experience in Motherhood, as I have felt them myself and come through them. I also now have the professional tools and training to help women to deal with these feelings. Since working as a therapist I have supported many Mums to challenge their inner critics, prioritise their needs more, have difficult conversations with partners and find themselves again after losing their identity to Motherhood. I'd love to help you too.
Alongside my role as a Counsellor, I have trained in Perinatal Mental Health Peer Support and this helped me in my Volunteer role for the charity PANDAS, where I volunteered to support parents through pregnancy and parenthood, via supportive email.
I believe passionately about advocating for women and Mums and was a Volunteer with the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership as a parent rep, where we listened to women’s experiences in order to help develop and improve maternity services in Leeds.
Alongside this, I’m currently a Counsellor in Women’s Charity Services at a Women’s Centre, where I support women in many varied and wide-ranging areas, such as relationship difficulties, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, loss and grief, anxiety and depression, anger and rage; difficulties in motherhood; hormonal issues such as PMDD; sexuality issues; and neurodiversity challenges.
I undertake my private practice as part of Arbour Counselling and Psychotherapy, a small collective of therapists, in our therapy room in Chapel Allerton, Leeds.
I have been a Samaritans telephone listener volunteer, so I can help with any more difficult feelings of distress or despair without any judgement.
